Dental Extractions Hervey Bay
Unfortunately, not all teeth are salvageable if they become diseased or loose. To remove infection and relieve pain, it may be necessary to remove a tooth.
White Dental Co. offers a gentle, highly skilled, and personable approach to tooth extraction and minor oral surgical procedures.
Because we value your ongoing oral health, we’ll also work with you to retain the rest of your natural teeth for life.
Why are tooth extractions sometimes needed?
While we always try to help our patients retain healthy teeth, there are many reasons why a tooth might not last a lifetime.
- Deep decay, catastrophic fracture, or gum disease may make it impossible to retain a tooth
- There may not be room for an impacted tooth (including wisdom teeth) to come into the mouth properly. Leaving it in place may cause problems like decay or infection.
- Tooth removal may be part of a course of orthodontic treatment
- The overall dental or general health of a patient may improve with the judicious removal of a tooth.
Our friendly team is here to help.
If you are facing a dental extraction, it’s natural to be feeling a bit nervous about it. Our entire team is here to answer your questions and ensure your comfort before, during, and after your appointment.
Our dentist, Dr Nick White, is an experienced dentist with an interest in extractions and minor oral surgery. He has a gentle and calm approach and will support you during every step of the procedure.
Dr Nick is credentialed to admit patients to nearby St Stephen’s Hospital in Hervey Bay for treatments under general anaesthetic.
Frequently asked questions about tooth extractions.
Can I have my tooth extractions done in the chair just with a local anaesthetic?
If you’d prefer to have your extractions done in our rooms under a local anaesthetic, we can accommodate this. Dr Nick will discuss the extraction process with you and support you in making a decision that’s right for you.
Can I have my tooth extractions done while I’m asleep?
You can choose to have the extractions done under a general anaesthetic at the hospital. This is also an option if you’re having your wisdom teeth removed. Dr Nick will discuss the extraction process with you and support you in making a decision that’s right for you.

Will I need stitches? And do these dissolve?
Stitches are only necessary if the gums need help to heal back in place. Soluble stitches can be used so the patient doesn’t have to reappoint to have stitches out.
Are there risks associated with tooth extractions?
All surgical procedures carry risks. Dr Nick will explain these to you before your treatment. He’ll also provide instructions to minimise the likelihood of post-extraction infection, swelling, and discomfort.
