Dental Check-ups Hervey Bay

A timely dental check-up will help to keep your dental health on track.

Your check-up appointment begins with a few minutes of conversation with our dentist, Dr Nick White. Our regular patients enjoy this brief catch-up. And if you’re new to the practice, we know you’ll enjoy getting to know Dr Nick a little better.

Dr Nick will ask about

  • your general health, including recent health concerns
  • your current medications
  • whether you’ve noticed any dental problems
  • if you have any questions or concerns about your oral health.

Comprehensive dental check-ups

Dr Nick will inspect your teeth and gums and note other factors that influence your oral health. He’ll conduct:

  • A thorough inspection of the lining of your mouth to check for potential problems such as oral cancer
  • A detailed inspection of your gums. Dr Nick will gently check for bleeding gums (a sign of gingivitis) or gum pockets (a sign of gum disease).
  • A review of your saliva to ensure it’s healthy.

Dr Nick may take photos using an intraoral camera. These provide a permanent visual record of areas of your mouth at risk. You can review your images at each appointment to see if anything has significantly changed.

Will dental x-rays be taken during the check-up?

If dental x-rays are needed, Dr Nick will take them during the check-up. We use low-radiation digital x-rays for your comfort and safety.

Thorough professional dental cleans

Many people struggle to completely prevent the buildup of tartar on their teeth and gums. Dr Nick will remove tartar from your teeth with an ultrasonic scaler.

If plaque and superficial stains are present, Dr Nick will polish these away. Patients at risk of developing decay may be offered a fluoride varnish to fortify teeth against decay.

After a dental cleaning, Dr Nick will likely review your home care routine.

Treatment options explained with care.

If your check-up reveals that treatment is necessary, Dr Nick will discuss a treatment plan with you. He’ll invite you to ask questions about the recommended dental treatments. Our friendly staff will assist you in scheduling your appointments.
